Ardoyne Community Centre Committee

Description

The council has developed a range of community facilities throughout the city to meet the social and recreational needs of all age groups in areas where the existing provision is less than adequate. Staffing and day-to-day management of such substantial premises are the responsibility of the council, but it was envisaged from the outset that effective development and a positive response to local needs required the active participation of both those local organisations which use the centre, and the local community through the establishment of a partnership between the council and community centre committees.

Implicit in this partnership is the aim of involving local people in shaping the work of the community centre, providing opportunities for voluntary service and ensuring that the centre is sensitive to the needs of the people it serves. Further, there is an opportunity for local communities to make a meaningful contribution to the improvement of conditions and opportunities for all residents, be they housing, employment, education, recreational or other, relating to the needs of the area. In all of these, local community centres and their committees have a valuable role to play.

The constitution of the community centre committees enables the council to appoint to the committees such number of councillors from time to time, as it considers appropriate.
